中國科學(xué)院院士、第三世界科學(xué)院院士、英國愛丁堡皇家學(xué)會外籍院士。

　　主要從事景觀生態(tài)學(xué)和自然地理學(xué)研究，在土地利用結(jié)構(gòu)與生態(tài)過程、景觀生態(tài)學(xué)和生態(tài)系統(tǒng)服務(wù)等方面取得了系統(tǒng)性創(chuàng)新成果。已發(fā)表學(xué)術(shù)論文500余篇，其中SCI收錄論文260余篇，SCI引用7000余次，入選高引用作者，國內(nèi)引用43000余次（CNKI），出版著作10余部。曾獲國家自然科學(xué)二等獎，國家科技進(jìn)步二等獎、國際景觀生態(tài)學(xué)會杰出貢獻(xiàn)獎、中國科學(xué)院杰出科技成就獎和何梁何利科學(xué)與技術(shù)進(jìn)步獎。任Chinese Geographical Science 主編，Landscape Ecology、Landscape and Urban Planning、Current Opinion in Environmental Sustainability等刊物編委。

擔(dān)任中國科學(xué)院地學(xué)部主任、國家自然科學(xué)基金委員會地球科學(xué)部主任、國際地理聯(lián)合會副主席、國際生態(tài)學(xué)會副主席；生物多樣性和生態(tài)系統(tǒng)服務(wù)政府間科學(xué)-政策平臺多學(xué)科專家組成員；中國地理學(xué)會理事長、中國生態(tài)系統(tǒng)研究網(wǎng)絡(luò)科學(xué)委員會副主任；國家環(huán)境保護(hù)部科學(xué)技術(shù)委員會委員，國家科技部“生態(tài)保護(hù)與恢復(fù)”領(lǐng)域?qū)＜医M組長。
