Professor Zhiguo Yuan, Chair Professor of Urban Water Management at the School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong, has recently been awarded the Global STEM Professorship. Short Bio of Prof Zhiguo YuanPrior to joining CityU, Professor Zhiguo Yuan was a Professor at The University of Queensland, and Director of the Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering and a Distinguished Fellow of the International Water Association. He was named as one of Engineers Australia’s Top 100 Most Influential Engineers for 2015, and appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2019. He was an Australian Laureate Fellow (2018-2022). He published over 500 journal papers including papers in Nature and Science, which attracted ~46,000 citations, giving an h-index of 117 (GS, July 2023). He is a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher. He is the founder of three spin-offs namely SeweX, Cloevis and Lodomat. He is Editor-in-Chief of Water Research X, a Gold OA sister journal of Water Research.Research Associates/Postdocs Employment
The appointee will assist Professor Yuan to set up a STEM laboratory on urban water management at City University of Hong Kong, and undertake research on innovative technologies for urban water management, with a particular focus on innovative wastewater and wastewater sludge treatment technologies, energy- and carbon-neutral urban water management, resource recovery from wastewater, smart urban water systems, and water and wastewater infrastructure protection. The appointees will also assist Professor Yuan to supervise PhD, Master, and undergraduate research projects.
The appointees are expected to engage with the authorities and industry on urban water management both in Hong Kong and in Mainland particularly in the Greater Bay Area.
Requirements for Research Associates and Postdocs
·A PhD degree in environmental engineering / civil engineering or related fields, from a local university or a top 100 university/institution for STEM-related subjects in the latest publication of the following ranking tables: Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) and the Times Higher Education (THE).·Applicants for the Research Associates positions are required to have at least 3 years' experience after the award of PhD degree.·Applicants with less than 3 years of experience after the award of a PhD degree will be considered for appointment as Postdoc.·Strong expertise in urban water management, and in laboratory and/or pilot-scale experimental studies, or in the modelling, data analytics and/or control of urban water systems.·An excellent track record in high-quality publications.·Good command of written and spoken English, with effective communication skills.
Salary and Conditions of Service
Salary offered will be highly competitive (up to HK$35,000 per month, plus a living allowance of HK$10,000 per month and employer’s contributions to the Mandatory Provident Fund), commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental consultations at the campus clinic.
